High Gloss, Marble Sheen, or Matt — Which Tile Finish Will You Choose? ✨
When it comes to design, there’s rarely one perfect answer — only the best solution for your space and brief.
As designers (and clients too!), we often face the same question:
Which tile finish works best for the space — high gloss, marble sheen, or matt?
Let’s break it down simply 👇
1️⃣ Area of Application
This is where function truly leads design.
Your choice depends not just on the room (kitchen, washroom, living area) but also on where the tile is being applied — walls or floors.
High-gloss tiles are great for wall applications or low-traffic areas. They reflect light beautifully, making spaces like living rooms and powder rooms feel larger and brighter.
Matt tiles are ideal for flooring in kitchens, balconies, and bathrooms where grip and durability matter.
Marble sheen finishes sit right in between — perfect for bedrooms or passages where you want elegance without high reflection.
2️⃣ Style or Theme of the Project
Your finish should complement your overall vibe.
For a modern or luxe interior, high-gloss and marble sheen finishes enhance clean lines and metallic highlights.
If you’re going for a warm, natural, or minimal feel, matt finishes add that grounded, cozy texture.
3️⃣ Reflection & Light Play
Lighting changes everything.
High-gloss tiles reflect maximum light, making compact or darker spaces appear airy.
Matt and marble sheen tiles, on the other hand, diffuse or absorb light — creating a softer, more sophisticated ambience.
Myth Buster: Slip Resistance 🚫💦
Your tile’s finish doesn’t determine its grip — its R-rating does.
For dry areas, an R8 rating works well.
For wet areas, look for R10 or higher for better slip resistance.
